Distributing & Claiming the EGO Album Badge

--

As part of RAC’s EGO album release on Ujo Music, we are experimenting with Tokenizing Support. For everyone that bought the album, a digital collector’s item has been issued: a commemorative reminder, forever etched into the Ethereum blockchain.

We’ve issued this token to all the buyers of the album.

You can find the token contract at the following address on Ethereum: https://etherscan.io/token/0xd0b3462481c33f63a288cd1923e2a261ee65b4ff

The badge conforms to the ERC20 standard on Ethereum and thus one can freely transfer this badge to others. We recommend holding onto it!

To view this token that you should’ve received in Metamask, you must add it to the ‘Token’ tab.

When clicking the “+”, it will open up the following pane. When pasting in the contract address 0xd0b3462481c33f63a288cd1923e2a261ee65b4ff, it will automatically populate the rest of the fields.

Once added, it should show that you have 1 EGO as follows.

We issued the first round of badges ourselves. However, if you bought the album after this issuance, you must claim the token yourself.

In order to do so, one needs to call a function on the token contract using Metamask.

In the send pane, send 0 ether to the contract, and add in the following additional data:

0x981af538

That bunch of numbers and letters indicate the function called “claimByBuyer” needs to be triggered in the smart contract. The smart contract then asks the licensing module for this album release to determine if this person has paid or not. If they have, the badge will be issued, all thanks to the magic of smart contracts.

The flexibility of the licensing module is part of our modular licensing system under the hood.

The functionality allows experiments like these to flourish.

We realise this is not the most user-friendly way at the moment to claim and use these fan badges.

We are currently hard at work trying to bring this system to many more artists through a creator’s portal. In the future, claiming and using these badges is a top priority, and we hope to make it substantially easier than it is now.

Stay tuned!
